BOTOX® is a natural purified
protein that relaxes the wrinkle causing muscles, creating a smoothened
rejuvenated and a more youthful appearance. It is a simple non-surgical
procedure that smoothens the deep persistent facial lines, which develop over
time. It is the only botulinum toxin in the world registered for the treatment
of frown lines and approved by the US FDA. It is also now ratified by the
Indian Drug Administration Authority.
BOTOX® was first used to treat a common eyelid neuro-muscular
disorder called benign essential blepharospasm or BEB, a neuro-muscular
disorder where the eyelids involuntarily close. But, both doctors &
patients soon realized that facial wrinkles disappeared in areas where BOTOX®
was injected and so started the cosmetic journey of BOTOX®.
Today BOTOX® is the most popular wrinkle reduction treatment in
Mumbai and in India.
BOTOX® is a very safe drug (in skilled, trained hands) which works
locally and has no systemic side-effects. It is closest to the World Health
Organization's descriptions of an IDEAL drug. It is used for as many as 20
indications, at present.
Our center is one of the pioneers in eye and face care in Mumbai.
Our internationally trained Facial Plastic Surgeon uses not only BOTOX®,
but also a host of other surgical & non-surgical therapy, for facial
cosmesis & ensuring that you look beautiful!

3. Do patients experience any side effects?
A. The most common side effects are temporary, including soreness or mild
bruising, which can be easily covered with makeup. There could be mild
tenderness on chewing hard foods in the first few weeks. Chewing and swallowing
food are not affected. Botulinum Toxin Type A is not recommended during
pregnancy or breastfeeding or for patients with a neuromuscular disease.
4. What ages can BOTOX® cosmetic treat?
A. BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used to treat all adult patients up to
65 years of age.
5. How long will the effects last?
A. As every patient is different from the other, it depends entirely on the
individual, but a single treatment of BOTOX® will normally last for
approximately 4-6 months and eventually there is a gradual fading of its
effect. At this point it is advisable to return to the doctor to continue
treatment.
6. In a traditional society like India, where looks were
never accorded much importance, are there people bothered by cosmesis?
A. India is changing rapidly. In fact, we do not see too many differences
between patients in Mumbai and in the United States. Cosmesis, like we said, is
NOT about looking beautiful, it is about looking presentable and the best that
we can be. it is about improving and maintaining self-esteem and confidence.
7. Can BOTOX be administered by anyone?
A. Administering BOTOX requires precise understanding of facial
musculature; not only for best results but also for preventing associated
complications. It is best administered by a professional trained specifically
to look at facial musculature dynamics.
8. Is there an advantage of having a trained Facial Plastic
Surgeon administer BOTOX?
A. BOTOX is NOT the panacea of all wrinkles and ageing cure and every
wrinkle may not be suspectable to BOTOX. A trained Facial Plastic Surgeon knows
where BOTOX can be used and does not have to rely solely on BOTOX for
treatment, as there are other tools in the armamentarium. Other specialists may
not have this advantage.
9. Is Botox safe?
A. Botox has been used worldwide for more than 20 years, with
predictable results. Long term studies have shown absolutely no side effects,
leading Botox to be considered as one of the safest drugs known to
mankind.
Nowadays,
folks in the United States are getting Botox therapy even while buying shoes!
